Forgive our debts, as we also forgive our debtors... Matthew 6:12.
I am constantly in need of forgiveness, I need the Lord to replace my nature with His Spirit. This scripture tells me that my sins will be forgiven in direct proportion to how I have forgiven others. As. One word. So significant. Also significant to me is the fact that this prayer about forgiveness is supposed to be prayed every.single.day. It helps me to know that Christ knew I would *daily* struggle with this forgiveness thing. No becoming discouraged, Christ makes provisions doesnt He?
For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins" Matthew 6:14-15
Thank you for explaining and examining this powerful prayer.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a much missed concept. Typically, we always pray for the Lord to forgive us BEFORE we forgive others. You're right. We have it backward. It's a lesson Jesus has been teaching me over the past year. Thank you for bringing up this much needed topic.
ReplyDelete@Christine, thank you for commenting...and congratulations on that new baby, Kimmy is such a blessing to me!
ReplyDelete@Darla, Pastor preached a life changer several weeks back about the women caught in the act of adultery...Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more...the exact opposite of what we tend to say....Go, sin no more and then Ill forgive, but Christ doesnt condemn us and its His mercy that allows us to *go and not sin*.
Im sure its not near as beautiful here as it was when Pastor preached it, but you can imagine, yes?
PS Bro Bow was AWESOME!
