Family Devotions

This is how our Family Devotions go.

My husband wakes us and we all gather in the living room. He reads us 1 or 2 chapters out of the Bible. A couple months ago we decided to start at Genesis 1:1. We use the ESV Study Bible and will usually read the comments that correspond with the mornings scriptures. The study comments really open up the history and meaning of what we are reading.

Regardless of my childrens age and Biblical interest .....exposure to His word is good. The routine. Showing our children that He is what we start our day with. Training goes beyond the words that are read. We are training hearts and minds to know that every day should be started as a family. With prayer. Considering His word. Sitting quietly with reverence because something greater than self is to be focused upon.

Then we hold hands and say the Lords Prayer. My 2 year old is starting to recite certain portions.

Our evening devotions are about the same except we often will all name something we are thankful for that God has given us that day. We share and pray over prayer requests. Our Bible reading is random in the evening. Ususally a Proverb or Psalm.

What a blessing to begin and end every day with Him! What a blessing to gather as a family.
Deuteronomy 11:19

19And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

  1. Amen! Teaching children the ways of God is an everyday/all day responsibilty assigned to parents by God. But oh what rewards when we see our children developing their own relationship with God!!!!
